Mission 4 - Takeoff WX good. Encountered 100% cloud cover over channel. No Recall. Atked by Me-110 G4 NF near Antwerp. E/a made 2 passes. Rear Cntr Section - Oxygen knocked out to Mid Upper Gunner. Stayed at Low alt. remainder of mission. No mechanical issues. Atkd by He-219 NF near Luxembourg. Superficial Damage. Last seen diving away burning. No recall. 100% CC over Target. Light AA over target. Superficial damage. Bombs: 30% ON TARGET. No encounters on return flight
Mission 5 - Takeoff WX was poor. Heavy rain and low visibility made forming up difficult. "Stormy our weather briefer indicated a major storm was over the channel and the Continent. 100% cloud cover was predicted for the entire mission to the target. 104 Squadron was flying "tail end charlie" for the overall mission As we approached the Belgium coastline we received a Mission Recall. F/SGT Addington Confirmed and we returned to base. Roger set down safely as the storm began clearing over base. We landed without incident.
Mission 6 - WX was good overall. There were no problems on takeoff. No Night Fighers were encountered enroute to the target. Gerry Hansen our bomb aimer said he was "feeling Lucky" tonight. (Random Event Table roll) We saw searchlights illuminate Haunt the Moors, another 104 Squardon Lancaster but Colin Maitland their pillot expertly slipped away without receiving any AAA fire. Navigation was easy, Munster was lit up by fires from 102 Squadron's bomb runs long before we arrived over the target. There was very little AAA fire on the bomb run and coming off of the target. F/SGT Hansen was right, it was his lucky night! He was ON TARGET with 60% of our bomb load. Again, we had no encounters with Night Fighters on the return flight. We langed safely back at our base. Our Snior Erk inspected R for Roger and said he will be ready for next mission.
Mission 7 - Synopsys: A long mission to zone 9. WX was good overall. There were no problems on takeoff. No night fighters were encountered enroute to the target. "Window" deployed beginning near Liege Belgium. Not detected by searchlights. No NF activity encountered. Light AAA fired at us in the target zone. Pathfinder dropped green flares directed us to the target. F/SGT Hansen our bomb aimer put 30% of the bombs on target. We encounter light AAA fire on the bomb run and coming off of the target causing minor damage. We had no encounters with Night Fighters on the return flight. We landed safely back at our base. Our Senior Erk inspected R for Roger and said he will be ready for next mission.
Mission 9 - Synopsys: A long mission to zone 11. WX was poor overall. Take off and landing were shaky with poor weather . No Night Fighters were encountered. The Squadron got a Weather Abort in Zone four. No enemy contact. Bombs jettisoned over the channel. We landed safely back at our base. Our Senior Erk inspected R for Roger and said he will be ready for next mission.
Mission 11 - WX was 50% over Allied territory on the continent with Ground Fog and Haze over Germany. No problems on takeoff. No Night Fighters encountered enroute to the target. "Window" deployed beginning in Zone 7. Not detected by searchlights. No NF activity encountered over tarfet or on return. Light AAA encountered over the target. Pathfinder dropped green flares directing R for Roger to the target. F/SGT Hansen, bomb aimer put 30% of the bombs on target. We encountered light AAA fire on the bomb run and coming off of the target causing minor damage. We had no encounters with Night Fighters on the return flight. We landed safely back at our base. Senior Erk inspected R for Roger and said he will be ready for next mission.
Mission 12 - WX, Good over Allied territory on the continent Building cloud cover in zones 4 and 5 with Ground Fog and Haze over the target in Germany (Zone 6). Take off WX Good with no problems. No Night Fighters encountered in allied territory enroute to the target. "Window" deployed beginning in Zone 6. Detected by searchlights in Target zone. Light AAA encountered over the target. Pathfinder flares directed R for Roger to the target. F/SGT Hansen, bomb aimer put 50% of the bombs on target. "R for Roger" encountered light AAA fire on the bomb run and coming off of the target causing minor damage. "R for Roger" was attacked by an Me-262 Jet Fighter that made two passes and then broke off. Sharp climbing turns caused the Jet to overshoot and miss in its firing passes. "R for Roger had no other NF encounters on the return flight. Landed safely back at our base. Senior Erk inspected "R for Roger" and said he will be ready for next mission.
