Mission AAR

Previous aircraft - Dolly with Ale - lost on mission to Mannheim.
Previous aircraft - Dolly with Ale 2 - was lost on mission to Warnemunde.
Previous Aircraft - Cynthia - lost during Rostock mission.

Mission 8 AAR
Mission 9 - Received mission recall instructions due to "weather".... attacked by one DO217   We hit him, he did not damage us. Bombs dropped in sea.
Mission 10 - Had several brief encounters with E/A and flak; sustained loss of tail guns and tail gunner was trapped due to a/c damages. hole in fuel tank fortunately self-sealed. Hit target city. Returned to base.
Mission 11 - Zone 2 – 3, we were attacked by several enemy Bf110 – One dove at us from 1:30 high, our defensive must of fire hit E/A and we speculate the pilot was killed or seriously wounded as the 110 never fired at us and dove right by us, we presume to crash into the sea.

In other attacks by Bf110’s - E/A surprised us, raked CYNTHIA 2, but hit no one and did damage to port wing root and tail turret guns rendered inoperable. Another Bf110 attacked from 12 low, hit us, making port landing gear inoperable and rendering autopilot inoperable. In zone 5, CYNTHIA 2 developed a serious fuel system problem. Fuel successfully transferred to other fuel tanks, but we were now short on fuel to be able to complete this mission. P.O. Fisher turned CYNTHIA 2 around and headed back towards England. We dumped bomb load. (it took awhile as enemy gunfire damaged bomb release mechanism and bomb release had to be performed manually)

Radioed for rescue. Contact said Royal Navy would be standing by. Fuel was almost depleted when P.O. Fisher attempted to land CYNTHIA 2 on sea, but it was a rough landing and several crewmen were killed in the landing. Small RN vessel picked us up out of the water - good thing for our life jackets as the dinghy was destroyed by enemy gunfire. The navy chaps gave us blankets and tea and took us to Great Yarmouth.
