Mission Reports -
Mission 1 - Take off and form up was good as well as the out leg to the target. We stayed high up and used just navigation radar until we reached Germany. We were detected several times but no AA or fighters were able to get a good spot on us to attack. Our bomb run was good and we hit 60% of the target. The inbound leg of the missions was uneventful with not fighter encounters. The landing was good and all crew made it back safely and will be ready for duty on the next mission.
Mission 2 - Take off and form up went well as well as the flight over the North Sea and over Holland. As we crossed into Germany we were spotted and took AAA fire over the target. We lost #2 engine after it was hit and became a runaway, but we were able to drop on target with some good results. SGT Price reported damage to the tail gun and he moved to the ventral gun for the rest of the mission. After the rune for home, we were spotted again and hit with AAA as well as a night fighter snuck up under us and opened fire. Luckily, we only had minor damage and SGT Price could get a shot on him after he opened on us. Price damaged the cockpit and the fighter nosed up at us striking the front of London Calling and shearing off the nose section to our stunned eyes. Our bomb aimer we killed instantly as we fought for control of the plane. Leveling out several thousand feet below, we were able to get control, but we were quite shaken. We were able to continue home but at a much reduced speed. Jerry found us again crossing into Holland and AAA took out a second engine, this time on the port side. Slowly we make it back over the North Sea and the safety of home. Landing was rough but we were able to set it down. The rest of the crew had some bumps and bruises, but we were informed that plane was a write-off.
