1944 Mission Notes:

Mission 4 - V-Victoria, and her crew, was on her first combat mission. On route to target, V-Victoria suffered a Schrage Musik attack from a Do217 N-2. The enemy made a single pass, knocking out the Mid-Upper turret as well as damaging the MUG ammo feed. Further, #2 engine was knocked out.

Pilot decided to abort. The aircraft dropped altitude and turned toward home, releasing her bombs over the Channel.

After dropping the bombs V-Victoria was attacked from 6 low by an ME110 G-4. V-Victoria took eight direct cannon hits. Auto pilot and auto pilot controls were knocked out, tail gunner lost his heat, tail turret lost its starboard ammo feed, hits on the port aileron and several superficial structural hits. The killing blow was a hit to the starboard inboard fuel tank, causing a fire. Pilot ordered the crew to bail out of the plane, as it rolled to starboard. No crew were able to exit the falling aircraft. All perished when the plane crashed in the Channel, with the English coast in sight.
