1944 Mission Notes:

Mission 1 -  On their first combat mission, L-Lucky and her crew, out over the Channel, were attacked from below by a Ju88G7 in a Schrage Musik attack. The aircraft took a hit to the left wing root, and lost hydraulics to the main landing gear. With the Belgian coast in view L-Lucky was once again the victim of a Schrage Musik attack, by an Me110G4. #1 engine was rendered inoperable. The crew were able to feather the prop. Monica Radar was rendered inoperable, and the tail guns were knocked out. The plane reduced altitude, and kept its bomb load on board. No further enemy aircraft were encountered until approach to the target. After passing through the flak belt, without damage, the L-Lucky was the victim of another Schrage Musik attack, from an Me110G4. This attack knocked out the pilot's O2 supply, the H2S Radar, the autopilot, the Rear center ammo boxes, and started a fire in the port wing outboard fuel cells. The fire forced the crew to bail out. The entire crew bailed out safely, with all crew captured, and became POWs.
