1944 Mission Notes:

Mission 18 - AAR
Mission 19 - They say be careful of what you wish for. We were hoping for a nice quiet mission. We figured a short mission would end quickly and quietly. We didn’t see an enemy aircraft all the way to the target, and almost all the way back. Not so much as a chirp from Monica. We were lulled into a false sense of security. Over the Channel, on our last leg, the bomber shuddered from the pounding coming from below, as the enemy shells hit home. No systems were damaged, but Sgt. Hawkins in the tail took a small piece of shrapnel to his right forearm. We went into evasive maneuvers as the enemy came around again. Sgt. Hawkins picked up the Me110 G4 at 6 low and let loose a burst. He hit the 110 in the nose as the enemy fighter slipped below us. The 110 opened fire with his schrage cannons, raking us from stern to stem. No critical systems were damaged, but the mid-upper guns were knocked out. Adding insult to injury Sgt. Hawkins took another piece of shrapnel to his right forearm. The Messerschmitt did not come around for a third attempt. Upon landing Sgt. Hawkins was taken to hospital. He will be released tomorrow and can resume flying duties the next day.
Mission 20 - Over the North Sea, with the Dutch coast ahead, the Halifax bomber H- "Hurry Home" Harry was rocked by a Schrage Musik attack, from a Junkers Ju88 G7. The fighter stitched the bomber from tail to nose, including hits on the port wing bomb cell. These hits detonated the bombs therein, blowing up the bomber and killing all crew aboard.
