1944 Mission Notes:
Mission 18 - While still over England, Q-Queen suffered a Schrage Musik attack by an Me110G4. Damage was extensive, but relatively minor: Nose guns nocked out, MUG suit heat out, tail gunner heat out, and a hit to the O2 system.
Decision was to continue the mission at Low Altitude.
On its second pass, the Me110 was shot town by tail gunner Sgt Forster.
Passing Dover on the right, Q-Queen was attacked by an He219A0. An exchange of gun fire between Q-Queen and the fighter made no hits.
With Amiens passing on the left, flak found Q-Queen, striking the starboard wing root. Another Me110G4 made a Schrage attack. Q-Queen took many rounds, with the only notable damage being the port flap. As the 110 made for a second Schrage attack, Sgt Forster put a number of rounds into the enemy fighter, Continuing on to its second Schrage pass it once again caused only superficial damage.
As the Messerschmitt passed to the bomber's right it was too close and struck the starboard wing. The collision put the bomber into an uncontrolled dive. The only crewman able to escape the plummeting bomber was the Mid Upper Gunner F/Sgt Bowen Hall. He was soon captured upon landing.
