1944 Mission Notes:

Mission 19 - Whenever an enemy fighter could attack J-jig they did. Flak was also quite effective, hitting J-Jig multiple times, and causing much damage. Once all damage was assessed, upon return to base, J-Jig will need at least two days to repair. Even with the damage that was being incrementally added to J-Jig throughout the mission, J-Jig was able to hold together, and allow us to drop 20% on target.

Mission 20 - No enemy contact until approaching the target. Attack by a Dornier 217 holed the left inboard fuel tank. The tank did not self-seal. Only enough fuel to get over the North Sea was available. The tail turret damaged the Dornier on its first pass.On the Dornier's second pass it was shot down from the combined fire power of the tail and MUG turret gunfire. All crew except the pilot and flight engineer moved to the rear center section in preparation for ditching in the North Sea. Both the pilot and flight engineer were injured in the ditching. All crew successfully exited the aircraft, and were rescued by the RN.
