Campaign 4 Notes:
Mission 5 - Faced one fighter, which caused some moderate damage. Target completely obscured, missed it completely.
Mission 6 - No comments submitted
Mission 7 - Crossing the coast over the North Sea the plane O2 system failed. We dropped below 10,000FT to complete the mission. Once over Germany we were plagued by searchlights. Sometimes we dodged them, sometimes we were coned. Flak caused minimal damage, none to sensitive systems, until over the target. There, bomb aimer P/O Skelton took a splinter to the neck. Despite the wound P/O Skelton put 40% of our bombs on target. Searchlights and flak followed us out of Germany. Not once while in enemy airspace did we see or hear any enemy fighters.
Mission 8 - Crossing the English coast toward the target we lost heat in the Nose, forward centre, and rear centre sections of the bomber. Dropped below 10,000 feet to complete the mission.
Enemy searchlights found us several times, including over the target. We were able to dodge them each time. Flak was frequent but inaccurate. No enemy fighters came near us, however, there were at three occasion where the glow from engine exhaust could be seen in the distance. Over the target, P/O Skelton was able to drop 40% on target, even with searchlights hitting us, and the haze and ground fog below.
Mission 9 - No enemy night fighters accosted us, during the mission. Flak was a nuisance most of the time over occupied territory, to and from target. No damage was suffered from the flak.Search lights caught us twice, we were able to dodge them one of those times.Bomb run was good with 40% on target.
Mission 10 - Quiet mission. No enemy fighters were encountered, flak was minimal, and search lights only caught us once, but were dodged.
Mission 11 - None submitted
Mission 12 - No enemy fighters encountered.Search lights caught us going in to the target. Despite being coned, no enemy fighters came our way, flak was ineffective, and P/O Rutter put 40% on the target.Flak was heavy coming off of the target, wounding P/O Rutter. Coming off of the target the Gremlins thought they'd have a go: Hydraulics pressure dropped then returned to normal; Power to the reflective sights in the MUG and Tail went out.
